The Anniversary/Couple's Session Prep Guide

I am so excited about your upcoming Anniversary/Couple's session. I love these type of Photography Sessions because they are uniquely designed to commemorate your love for each other. My goal is to capture lightly posed, natural photos of two together. Yes, I will capture shots with everyone looking at the camera, but I also like to capture the true essence of you two as a couple. My photography style can be described as natural, classic and romantic.

Do not worry about posing or feeling awkward in-front of the camera because I will guide you both through the entire process. I do not provide the use of props for my sessions, however if you have something in mind that you would like to bring, let me know. At the end of your session, you will have beautiful images that can be framed & hung in your home and passed down from generation to generation. Below are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.

Location: Together, we will decide on the best location for your photos. I have some beautiful locations that I love to shoot at, but I am open to shooting in new locations. If you need help deciding on a location I can definitely give you suggestions based on your personality, style and attire.

Time: The images in my gallery look the way they do largely because of my use of light. The time of day your session takes place has a huge impact. Since we will be shooting outdoors, we will shoot either in the morning or in the evening. The light is typically too harsh mid day (unless there is an overcast or we are shooting at a nature park/location with tall buildings). The typical times for shoots will either be around 2 hours after sunrise or 2 hours before sunset. Shooting around those times will provide the most gorgeous light and atmosphere!

Length of Session: Based on your collection choice, your session will be 30 minutes - 1 hour. During your session time, I will get a diverse and adequate gallery.

Your wardrobe should be flattering, comfortable and reflect your personal style. If you love to dress up, choose dressy attire. If you love a more causal look, choose causal attire that works for you. I do not recommend matching, but rather coordinating. I am happy to consult you directly on wardrobe. Just let me know. Also, check out these tips below:

  • Your outfit should be a reflection of who you are as a person. Being confident in what you wear is one of the most important tips I can give you. Confidence definitely shows on the camera.

  • Some of my couples choose to have two outfits for their engagement session. One outfit is usually on the dressier side (formal gown, cocktail dress, etc.) and the other is more casual and relaxed (sundress, flowy dress & skirt, etc.). If you would prefer both of your outfits to be dressy, go for it! Choose what best fits your personal style and what FLATTERS your body.

  • Ladies: The camera picks up EVERYTHING. Truth Moment: We ALL have some type of cellulite or parts of your bodies that we are not comfortable with. Some cellulite can be seen through some of the attire that we wear. If you can see cellulite through your attire when looking in mirror, the camera will also see it. Make sure your attire PROPERLY fits your body and figure. When wearing fitted or see through attire, Spanks will become your best friend. Spanks will smooth & tighten - I have been wearing them since 2007 & they have NOT failed me yet. Also, make sure undergarments and bra straps are not showing when looking in the mirror.

  • I also advise couples to coordinate their outfits. To coordinate does not mean to “match”. Wearing colors in the same color family that compliments each other, or wearing the same color in a different shade is more ideal than trying to wear the exact same color. For example, wearing the same exact shirt in the same exact color will look very much like a uniform.

  • If one person is wearing an outfit with lots of color and patterns, it is best for the other person to wear a solid or neutral color to tone it down a bit.

  • Make sure you are both equal when it comes to how formal or causal your attire is. If the lady is wearing a cocktail dress, then the guy probably should not wear shorts and tennis shoes. A fitted suit or sports jacket & slacks will be more fitting.
